Overview
Provides participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. They will also learn about the duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard and how to carry them out in a professional manner.
Upon successful completion of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course, you will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate. The Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification is valid for two years upon completion and is accepted nationwide.
This is a blended learning course (hours done online and in-person hours). Access to the online portion and attendance at all class days is MANDATORY, so please take this into consideration before registering for this class.
Registration is available online and in-person (with proper ID requirements to be submitted).
While taking this course does not automatically secure employment at a M-BC Parks & Recreation pool, we do encourage all passing participants to apply to join our summer lifeguard team If you apply and are hired, you will be refunded $100 of the 2024 class fee after you have worked 100 hours.

- In-person portion held May 17-19,2024; Registration will begin on Monday, March 25, 2024 online and in-person. Class size limit of 10 participants.
- In-person class held War Memorial Park Pool
- $250 per person (includes instruction, CPR mask and any materials); certification is valid for 2 years and covers CPR/AED/First Aid in the course. For ages 15 & up (must provide proof of age with registration).
- The instructor will contact participants with details once deadline (May 1, 2024) or once the class fills, whichever occurs first.
