Our Administrative Office at the Berkeley 2000 Recreation Center (Lambert Park) is open to the public for normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm). Per Governor Justice, starting on 7/7/20 masks will be required to enter our facility until further notice. Please practice social distancing by only one person/family inside at the desk at a time. If you are not comfortable coming inside, you may utilize our drop box just outside the door. Simply call our office at 304-264-4842 to let us know you are making a payment and what it is for. The W. Randy Smith Recreation Center has reopened for certain programs and leagues that have been permitted to restart. The office at this location is open to to customers Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:00pm.
As guidance and information comes from the Governor’s office as well as the Berkeley County Health Department, we are evaluating all of our facilities and programs to make proper and safe decisions on how to reopen. Details: War Memorial Pool has closed for the 2020 season. The miniature golf course and concession stand at War Memorial Park are open on weekends through September then it will also close for the 2020 season. Gymnastics classes have restarted with some restrictions and safety measures in place (no open gyms or private parties at this time). The dance program has also begun with a few new classes added to the schedule and also with safety measures in place. The morning gym walkers have resumed weekdays, 8:30am-10:30am at the Berkeley 2000 Recreation Center.
Pickleball (indoors) and Tae Kwon Do programs are still suspended until further notice. It is our hope to be able to resume these in the coming months, but we are awaiting guidance from the Health Department. We will continue to monitor the regulations and discuss options. Pavilions are available for use and the most recent gathering number as of this post is 25 people or less regardless of the pavilion size. If you rent a pavilion, please bring Clorox wipes (or the like) to clean the tables and seats. Due to limited staff, we are unable to guarantee the tables will be disinfected before your arrival. See additional information below.
All playgrounds, basketball and volleyball courts and restrooms have reopened (**see below). The water fountains are still not available. Please be aware that we will be doing our best to clean and sanitize the playground equipment, however, we are strongly recommending that visitors wash their hands and/or use hand sanitizer before and after using equipment.
**Oak Street Park pavilion and playground remains CLOSED due to construction on the new restroom facility. The basketball court has reopened as of August 19, 2020. The restroom near the pavilion at Ambrose Park is CLOSED with the exception of during pavilion rentals. The restroom at the other end of the park, near the new playground has reopened. Restrooms will remain open until the end of November at which time they will be winterized and closed until April 2021.**
