War Memorial Park Association Mission Statement
From 1947 to 1987, the War Memorial Park Association maintained, operated and actually owned War Memorial Park. In 1988, the park was deeded to the City of Martinsburg and has since been operated and maintained by the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation Board. The War Memorial Park Association has remained in place to serve as a “friends of the park” organization to specifically raise funds for capital improvement projects at War Memorial Park. These funds compliment funds from Parks and Recreation operating budget as well as grants received through parks & recreation. Many improvements accomplished over the past 28 years are a direct result of funds from the War Memorial Park Association. The M-BC Parks & Recreation department could not have budgeted enough funds without the War Memorial Park Association assistance to make all the improvements that have been made. This park is one of 16 public parks and it is the nicest and most heavily used facility in our county.
Each year on Labor Day, the War Memorial Park Association members, volunteers and M-BCP&R staff hold a breakfast in which proceeds from the ticket sales generate thousands of dollars to go towards much needed improvements and projects throughout the park.
Unfortunately, due to the gathering regulations and impact of COVID-19, the 2020 Labor Day Breakfast will not be held. We are however, hold a Labor Day ‘No Breakfast’ Breakfast Donation event in hopes that those individuals, families and business that would normally (or maybe didn’t know about the breakfast, but want to be part of supporting this beautiful and well-used park) attend the breakfast a chance to still show their support by mailing in or hand-delivering a donation. War Memorial Park is our second largest park and the most visited; it is vital that funding is available to maintain, update and add to the park.
HOW YOU CAN GIVE:
🔹 Hand-deliver or mail your donation to the M-BC Parks & Recreation Administrative Office located at 273 Woodbury Avenue, Martinsburg, WV 25404 (if paying by check, please make payable to ‘War Memorial Park Association’).
**Please note that our office is not open on weekends or on Labor Day, September 7th, however, we do have a drop box located outside our office door for checks. We ask that you do not mail cash donations or put cash donations in the drop box. All cash donations should be hand-delivered.
🔹 You can stop by the Main Pavilion on Monday, September 7th from 8:00am-10:00am and give your cash or check donation to a designated volunteer.
