OUR VISION & FUTURE
Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation strives to keep improving the quality of life for our residents. Through private donations, endowments, sponsorships and other forms of support from individuals, businesses, industries and organizations we have been able to continue to improve, create and maintain not only our physical parks and open space recreation areas in our community, but programs, classes and activities as well. Your generosity is an investment into our community and the wonderful residents of Berkeley County. These tax-deductible donations allow us to have a direct and immediate impact on the community – by planting a tree, developing parks, sending a child to camp and improving the City and County’s recreation opportunities.
Most of our expansion over the past two decades has resulted from non-tax dollar funds from grants, donations and estate gifts. We have a constant struggle to identify funds to warrant our existing public park facilities at a high level. Keeping our parks safe is first and foremost. We want our residents to be proud of our public park system and look forward to spending their leisure time in our facilities.
Our major goal is to develop several large diverse open space public parks in our county. The need for acreage is vital to this goal. Funds are difficult to identify for purchasing open space acreage. We need 100 plus acres in both North and South Berkeley County. The Back Creek Valley area would be high on the list as well. The donation of land would be a tremendous gift towards the development of our public park system. Funds are needed to expand existing facilities or any new public park development. All of this would enhance greatly the “quality of life” in our community.
